Who's your favorite female Sesame Street character? Not so easy to think of many, is it? That's because, up until now, there has never been a female lead character on the show. Starting Monday, that changes with the introduction of Abby Cadabby, a 3-year old muppet fairy. NPR has an interview with Abby, and the NY Times breaks down how she came about.
Also, The Lovely Mrs. Davis has a post up celebrating the 37th season of Sesame Street and she's asking bloggers to answer this question: "What television, music, movie or book from your childhood are you excited about sharing with your own children?"
Well, I've got 150 kids here at our English school in Tokyo, and so I've given this one a lot of thought. We introduce a ton of material to our kids and their parents. Here are the media that I have enjoyed sharing the most.
Books: Where the Wild Things Are, Caps for Sale, Green Eggs and Ham (Eric Carle is well known in Japan, Sendak and Suess much less so)
Music: Really Rosie, the Carrot Seed (book too).
TV: Several students check my blog from time to time, so I love that I can put up Electric Company clips. Kids in Japan are familiar with Sesame Street (though not so much the classics like the Count and Guy Smiley), but Electric Company is something new to them.
How about you?
